ASL Linguistics: Structure and Culture of American Sign Language

This immersive course delves into the foundational structure of American Sign Language (ASL), exploring its phonology, morphology, and syntax. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of ASL as a rich, visual-spatial language. Led by native signers, the program also offers meaningful engagement with Deaf culture, providing an authentic and transformative learning experience.

The course includes 8 sessions, held over four weeks on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM EST:

  • September 30 & October 2

Signing Naturally Units 1-6 Curriculum

Signing Naturally Units 1–6: Preparing to Teach Introductory ASL

This course is designed for individuals who want to learn the Signing Naturally Units 1–6 curriculum in depth, with the goal of teaching basic American Sign Language (ASL) in community-based environments. Whether you're leading workshops, volunteering, or supporting inclusive programs, you'll gain the tools to introduce ASL effectively to beginners.

The course includes 8 sessions, held over four weeks on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM EST:

  • October 21 & 23

  • October 28 & 30

  • November 4 & 6

  • November 11 & 13

 

Deafhood 201 with Marvin Miller

Enhance your understanding of your role in both the non-Deaf “system” and the Deaf ecosystem, and explore actions you can take to initiate change individually or in your community.

Two weekends, Saturday will have one hour break.

Signing Naturally Units 7–12: Preparing to Teach Intermediate ASL in Community Settings

This course is designed for individuals who want to study the Signing Naturally Units 7–12 curriculum in depth, with the goal of teaching intermediate American Sign Language (ASL) in community-based environments. Building on foundational skills, this level focuses on expanding vocabulary, enhancing grammar, and developing storytelling techniques. Whether you're facilitating workshops, mentoring learners, or supporting inclusive initiatives, you'll gain the tools to guide students toward greater fluency and cultural understanding.

The course includes 8 sessions, held over four weeks on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM EST:

  • November 25 & 27

  • December 2 & 4

  • December 9 & 11

  • December 16 & 18

 

Deafhood 101 with Marvin Miller

The course aims to transform personal, social, and professional outlooks, fostering new perspectives within individuals and the Deaf community.

We’re excited to announce the upcoming workshop from the ASLTO Program: LSQ Introduction with Alice Dulude. Join us on Saturday, November 1, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM EST and explore the history and development of Langue des signes québécoise (LSQ). This workshop will feature sign demonstrations, insights into how French influences LSQ structure, and a comparative discussion with ASL to highlight cultural diversity.
